2 Tournaments, 2 Wins

Headed over to Huddersfield with my Gadget deck ready to go!

Didn’t win a single game all day, only having 1 stud I obviously fell prey to every Sun in Ya Eyes and Pistol Whip around. Not a huge deal, I know the deck could be better, but I kinda want to play 4 copies of Fool Me Once, and 4 copies of Fate Dispenser even though there are much “better” cards on those values, without even checking the other values.

It also turns out, people don’t like science, and don’t want to see Technological Exhibitions!

After spending the night in a Huddersfield Hotel where the guy at the desk didn’t know where my room was (was an ok Hotel, the room was huge and the bed comfortable) got a lift to York for the Sherriff.

One of the 5 rounds my second action was a Kidnapping because my first was to buy a gun. The other 4 rounds my first action was a Kidnapping (and 1 of those 4 my second action was also a Kidnapping). One of my games I played a Kidnapping every turn for the first 4 turns…

Most the Kidnappings went fine, since I can power through most shootouts knowing I’ll have a better hand rank a good 75%+ of the time. A couple of times I lost the shootout and had trouble recovering, but even when it went well I could never draw enough control to close out the game.

I ended up 2-3. It’s obvious the deck needs more tweaking if I want to continue the forward tempo.

Was a great weekend, even if my ankle was giving me trouble, and looking forward to the next one!

Morgan Studs

It’s been a couple of sets since I last posted. When I went to the tournament in York I lost every game apart from 1 because I played my weird Morgan deck. Most those losses felt close (even though the games might not have actually been close mechanically) and I feel the last 2 sets have given a few extra tools for the deck.

With two tournaments this weekend I don’t want to play the same deck both days, so needed a rebuild. The deck was using “Putting the Pieces Together”, which I didn’t realise until I played one, that it comes into play booted, it kinda worked, but with the loose structure I needed to have at least 2 of them in play to compete in shootouts.

One of the problems with the deck was essentially that I need Mad Scientist 2s in my starting line up, and in case one gets Kidnapped or similar, I need a backup, and I need someone who can shoot, and it’s hard to cover all 3 dudes without hitting 3 upkeep.

Nicholas Kramer kinda helps, I’m still unsure about starting with a 0 Stud, but since the deck is jammed with gadgets as long as their first action isn’t a Kidnapping it should be fine.

Not sure if it’s worth mentioning that Jen is entirely unsuitable, she has an Upkeep and isn’t a Mad Scientist 2, and more than half the gadgets in the deck aren’t ones I could attach to her.

I have high hopes for the deck, especially thanks to Nicholas, who replaces Clint Ramsey as the go to starting Stud.
